We know that cocaine is made from the leaves of Erythoxylan coca, more than two centuries it is used in medicine as effective anesthetic and antiseptic that treats infections, burns, conjunctivitis, iridocyclitis, blepharitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, pulp, and parodontosis. Cocaine oppresses secretion (transpiration in particular), increases heart rate, narrows the vessels, tones nervous system, slows down the impulses in nerve fibers, increases blood pressure, enlarges the pupil, protects hard tissue of teeth. At the beginning of century cocaine was available at chemist’s shop. Fatal and almost the only disadvantage of cocaine are painful addiction and predilection to it. Pole, a member of the National Institute of Drug Dependence (USA) J. Grabowski prepared the report "Cocaine Pharmacology, Effects, and Treatment of Abuse" for the first time. The report included fifty scientific monographs and in the year 1984 was released to press by the American Governmental Publishing House in Washington.
For the first time the report scientifically substantiated the advisability of further widespread use of cocaine isomers for medical purposes except for two conformist 1-2b- kabuki -3-b- benzoiloksitropana (trivial name (-) cocaine), as only (-) cocaine in addition to all the positive properties, common to all isomers, cause drug addiction.
Moreover, it was scientifically substantiated that with the help of (+) cocaine painful dependence on (-) of cocaine can be treated.
Unfortunately, natural cocaine contains more than 96% (-) of cocaine and less than 4% of (+)cocaine.
Mister Grabowski was the first who offered scientists to focus on developing of technology of (+)-cocaine receiving, which would reduce its price and would make it almost available. Americans, with their scientific and technical potential and alacrity, didn't wait for long, and in the year 1987 Chemistry Journal of Heterocycles published an article "Practical synthesis of (+)-cocaine". A group of co-authors was headed by Anita H. Lewin.
It should be noted that the proposed fusion was inherently far from perfect, and even in a large approximation it could not pretend to industrial applications. At the same time, we didn't see any more or less worthy publications on this topic in open scientific journals of leading countries till present.
From 1990 to 2008 we managed to find catalysts and pick out a synthesis technology of (+) - cocaine in stages with access up to 56% on conversion to initial 2.5 - dialkoksshpetragidrofuran on the basis of well-known since the beginning of last century condensation of Robinson (Robert Robinson "A synthesis of Tropinone", J.Chem.Soc 1917).
